Heres the article

As we do every year, the CheatCodes.com staff made the arduous trek to E3 2004 - the Electronics Enterainment Expo in Los Angeles. It's difficult work: first class plane rides, limo pick up at the airport, a large room on the concierge level at the hotel across the street from the Convention Center, models, celebrities, VIP parties... well, you get the idea. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.

With all the marketing hype at the show for all the new games and hardware devices, there was one game that was conspicuously absent: Halo 2. There were no signs, no banners, no playable demos, nothing. Attendees whispered to each other "Where's Halo 2? Have you seen it? Is it here?" Having already announced a ship date of November 9, 2004, many expected Microsoft to show off the highly anticipated game. That wasn't the case, however.

While Halo 2 was indeed at the show, Microsoft was very quiet about it. The Halo 2 demo area was hidden inside a dark, well guarded room, behind a black curtain, inside the Media only section of the Xbox booth. Access was granted by inivitation only to VIP media and guests. As we waited for our appointment, we saw celebs like Disney executive Michael Eisner, comedian Sinbad, and Jenny McCarthy get their chance with the game - then it was our turn to play for a little over 30 minutes. Here are some photos and reactions to our first opportunity to get our hands Halo 2.

The demo room was set up with a total of 10 Xboxes (linked together, of course) 8 of which of them were connected to standard 17" displays, while the two up front were connected to 42" wide-screen plasma displays. We got to play on the big screen.

Everyone else got to play on the little screens.

Before playing, however, our hosts walked us through a brief demo of some of the new features of Halo 2. Of course, you can play as a Spartan (like Master Chief):

But in Halo 2 you can also play as one of the toughest Covenant characters around - the Elites.

Most of the weapons and vehicles are upgaded for Halo 2. For example, there is a lot more details in the vehicles, and you can destroy just parts of them now to affect driveability. Rocket launchers can lock on to their targets (shown below with the red targeting icon) which means once you pull the trigger the rocket WILL find the target, even if they run!

Some weapons are new, at least to the Spartans. If you manage to get a hold of an Elite sword, you can do some wicked melee damage with slashes, lunges, and uppercuts.

Another really cool feature of the new game is vehicle hijacking (that's our name for it - we don't know what Microsoft calls it). You can now jump on any vehicle with an enemy in it, ninja kick them out of the driver's seat, and start driving it yourself. Of course, turnabout is fair play, and you can also get hijacked if you're driving a vehicle. This isn't super easy to do without a lot of practice, but we anticipate this feature will be the source of a lot of smack talk in multi-player mode. Here's a Spartan as he hijacks a Ghost from an Elite:

When we finally got our chance to take the controls, we played 5 on 5 single flag CTF (aka Capture The Flag). It was Spartans versus Elites on a beach map level called Zanzibar (and yes - you CAN go in the water). The goal was for the Spartans to try and penetrate the beach fortress, capture the flag hidden within, and bring it out to the beach. The Elites did their best to defend the flag and ward off the attacking Spartans. Each match lasted for three minutes, but we love the feature stops the timer from ticking when someone is carrying the flag. After each round, the teams switch roles, so everyone has an equal chance to attack and defend. Here's CheatCodes.com CEO Steve Jenkins inside the fortress looking for the flag:

And here's CheatCodes.com CTO Steve Cook demonstrating what it looks like after you get fragged:

Our CCO Harlyn Jenkins also got a chance to play, and here he is on the lookout for Elites:

One of the coolest new weapons features is Dual Wielding. This means you can carry two weapons of any type in your hands at the same time, and use the left and right triggers to control them. Here's Steve Jenkins with an Assault Rifle in his right hand, and a Needler in his left. Believe it or not, the Needler is actually a great weapon in Halo 2!

We know you want more, but we were having such a great time playing the game that we didn't want to stop and take more photos. We're scheduled to visit the Microsoft Game Studios later this summer for a more extensive Halo 2 play, so we'll be sure to keep you up to date once we do.

Based merely on the half hour we spent with the game, we think it's safe to say that Microsoft and Bungie have a winner on their hands, and that Halo fans will in no way be dissapointed with the much anticipated sequel.

Microsoft tells us there are no cheat codes for Halo 2, but we're not sure if we believe them yet. And speaking of cheat codes, we happen to know that no other cheat code sites were allowed to play Halo 2 at E3. Awww... that's too bad. I guess they didn't know the cheat code to get into the demo! We think we saw one of their Webmasters playing an Atari 2600 for a while, however. I guess that should tell you where you want to stay tuned for more Halo 2 updates, as well as hints, tips, guides, walk-throughs (and maybe cheat codes?) for Halo 2 when it launches on November 9, 2004.

They are doing this so all the kiddies get the game bought for them for the winter holidays....they will get more sales this way. Thats one of the reasons it wast pushed back, it is smart.
