Scrimm Team Training Scrimm Team Training (Origional Post)

K, Time to step it up, we now have several members i'm confident in their ability to do well.

Were gonna start practicing, having strategies, all of it.

These are the members i'v selected to be eligible for the training. If your name isn't here but you want on, you have to have both ragnarok's approval, and mine.
  • Ragnarok
  • Siepher
  • Anthrax
  • SlyPenis
  • Illusionist

These are the ones that are both active and skilled enough to be in it.

You guys, we'll corroborate times via AIM, however, if you know of any strategies that have worked or you believe might work, post them here. Be very descriptive, don't just say things like:

QUOTE
ya, we should just have 2 people guard the flag and everyone else rush the flag to cap, that's all we should do ya

If you honestly believe that's a decent strategy, elaborate on it, make it sound a little more articulate, put more thought into it.

Post them here, otherwise we'll go with whatever I make up on the spot.

Congratulations.

5 man team...

That example strat that you gave is a good one but to articulate more here is what you should do,

Have your strongest and weakest fighters protect the flag. Maps do differ so find where your stronger (hiding/in open/partial coverage) and stick to it to defend.

The 3 other team members will be your offencive, 2 groups is most effective a 2 person group and a person going in solo, reasoning behind this is where there is 3 person in the same area...team killing accidentally happens. The 2 people should usually try to go the more often walked path because there is security in groups and the 2 of you should be able to handle any enemies you encounter the one going solo should go the route less traveled if enemies are encountered this solo player should have enough skills to be able to kill or at least delay the enemy, if either group gets the flag the 2 groups should try to meet up, but on the strict condition that it does not put the flag capper in danger.

For the group of 2, if you catch the flag have the person without the flag walk a few feet ahead to make sure that it is safe while the person with flag follows yet keeps checking rear to make sure he isnt being chased.

Upon message that a team member has picked up the flag the defenders should stand ready because this is usually the time where enemies will try to get the flag or will be chasing the person with the flag.

This is only 1 of many strats that can be used, another one briefly said is this:

Soccer style is goalie (flag defender) 2 mid fielders, and 2 offencive players. This is also a effective way play having your strongest players in goalie and offence to protect your flag and to get thiers.

Hope it works for you, and your scrimms.

Glad you're posting after we talked.

I like the first idea alot more, because on most scrimm maps (jor1, shop2, air1, kam3, etc..) there's only a few spots people will camp or patrol when defending their flag. On shop2, for instance, one of the most favorite camp spots is the cubicle right beside the red flag, once the blue team knows of it, it's one of the easiest spots to nade and therefore dispatch, ergo, it would make more sense to have more then 1 defender, and as such kill the attackers or delay them long enough for the other defender or other teammates to arrive and prevent the flag from being captured.

On the second style, having 1 defender baffles me. It's great to have 2 groups of 2 people, you can capture quickly, but when you have only 1 defender, it becomes exponentially easier to have your own flag captured.

Both are very good suggestions, thanks.

The second style works good because you have the 2 groups of 2 attacking...if your worried about the 1 defender alone the reassurance to that is...if you have 2 groups of 2 and both are using paths that are usually patrolled odds are they will encounter resistance and thin it out for the defender.

Granted, its a good strategy, I'm not saying otherwise. But in a scrimm my personal feelings are that defense is the #1 priority.

I'v been requested to be a ringer for a plethora of clans, along with matches in various leagues, and fought against clans who were extremely well organized, and the experience has taught me that defense wins, not offense. 1 defender just screams at me that i'd be asking for trouble, if he dies and both of your teams are off and about, then it would be quite easy for the team of 2 or possible the team of 4 if they follow things close to that strategy, then it would be hardpressed to not only kill the guy with the flag and all of his followers, but also prevent it from being recaptured.

I'm not saying it's not an effective strategy, but regardless of how good you are, it's hard for 1 man to fend off 4 others.

Those are some good ideas i think we should try them and see what happens that wud be the best

If we practice boosting on the common maps (jor1, shop2, kam 3,4,5, ect) 2 players on defense works the best because one can be boosted to a spot that's tough to be seen and the other can be more in the open drawing most of the fire.

well i always wanted to try ths senece there is 5v5 u have to guys guard ur flag while to rush and the one guy thats left can walk around kill an then when they grab the flag he can help them get it back to are base or he can also helpout the defenders if are flag gets takin but once that first rushing team comes back they switch the ppl on deffence and those 2 run out after the flag if for some reason they both die they go back and guard flag the the ppl who are deffending go after the flag that way u have constant rotaion and participation and the guy who runs around should be able to no the quikest routes to any were in the map so he can help whoever needs it.

Posted By illusionist on 8/06/04 @ 11:41:04 AM
another idea would be to keep 3 guys back to guard and send 2 out that way u alway have good protection around ur flag and the guys around the flag should be able and no were all the good hiding spots are those other 2 guys should be able to work together and watch each others backs and if they can do that then we should be able to score also the guys that rush should also know the fastest ways around the map and good places to stop and camp if there been folowed these are just some ideas i have more for practices like here is an example:we have all are members in the server and we take are scrim team agianst them or we get are scrim team and take are defenders and slam with wave after wave of guys so then can get better at deffence after that we can take are offencive and make them go against all the members that are in there to get the flag those are just some ideas i had if i have anymore ill post them or tell logic or rag on aim

I'm likeing these ideas, we'll have to try them.

I havn't told you guys yet, but I fully intend on creating another league just for you guys to be apart of. As in Clan GV will all be in a league, but we'll also have a 5man team for you guys alone, once i'm satisfied with the training.
