Overclocking Overclocking (Origional Post)

well im thinking of boosting my pc i got now a compaq 1.2ghz 512 mb ram of pc133 so im thinking to overcloking to 1028mb and getting 2.5 ghz and also change my pc case for a raidmax cobra black and yellow also im gettting a new hard disk of 80Go all that should cost me 500$ CAN witch is about 350$ U.S what ya think should i or not

but i dont know if its 512 or 1028 that ill have

Your idea of overclocking is flawed.

Overclocking is, say, taking a CPU that runs at 1.2Ghz and forcing it to run at 1.6Ghz.

What you're planning on, is, upgrading. Also, you can't just put a 2.5Ghz CPU into the slot of the 1.2Ghz CPU, unless you're positive it's the same socket, and if you're sure the motherboard supports it. You're most likely going ot have to dish out a bit more cash on a new motherboard. If you get the new CPU, and motherboard, you'll most likely need different RAM, so you'll have to dish out more money for that, especially if you want 1024. So, basically, you're talking about a completely different computer, which will run you much more than $300.
