Following the success of their luxurious and sporty sedans,Genesis is pushing forward with a new line of SUVs, starting with the GV80.

It is the first SUV from Genesis and will share the same underpinnings as the G80 sedan. It will be Genesis’ contender against the likes of the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and other premium mid-size SUVs.

For those who are curious about when the Telluride will go on sale, you won’t have to wait long. Genesis Chief Operating Officer Erwin Raphael announced an early 2020 debut for the GV80, followed by a smaller GV70 SUV that will arrive towards the end of 2020 or early 2021.

"We're very excited to introduce the GV80 about 11 months from now. Next May/June," Raphael, noted on a sales call at the beginning of July. "Then maybe 10 or 11 months after that, a compact crossover SUV built on the G70 platform."

Between now and 2021 Genesis promises six models in its lineup for sale. It’s unknown what Genesis is planning on doing for the sixth model.

Although the GV90 will be priced out of my league, after following the G90 since inception till now and knowing the GV90 will be an SUV version of it is quite exciting.

Its reasonable to suggest some trickle down effect will result in some great affordable products.

Just look at what BMW, Mercedes, Audi and now Alfa Romeo are doing.

If Genesis is smart they will follow what the big players in this SUV space are doing.
