An accidental GV80 tease?

A new safety video was uploaded to Hyundai's YouTube channel, which seems to feature their GV concept. Its not all that interesting as it just demonstrates vehicle safety systems but there have been some changes from the original concept that we saw back in 2017. Sculpting on the side profile has changed and the roof no longer slopes in the rear. The side mirrors are also significantly different, looking much more realistic for a production model.

Prior to seeing the 2020 Genesis G80 I would have been skeptical. Now, after seeing G80 test mules and the fully revealed model, it shares a lot with this SUV.
I'm a bit surprised that so much of the concept has still been retained on this version. I thought that one of the first things to change would be the lighting setup.

Looks like there might have been something to that video as its now been taken down. Guess Genesis didn't realize that it was showcasing some changes to the original concepts design. Here's some pics since the video probably wont be returning.

It further confirm what we've been seeing in the new G80 and of course in images of the SUV. Not hard to put the puzzle together.
I'm just happy that Genesis is taking a styling direction that's much needed, way to part them from Hyundai...

Most of the concepts that we have seen from Genesis end up being fairly close to what they deliver in the production model. I think aside from tweaks to the mirrors, wheels and lighting that most of this should translate over.
It probably helps too that many other new vehicles out right now come close to the 2020 G80. By those standards, outgoing Genesis products will look very old and fast.
Actually right now i'm realizing how bad they've done to retain timeless design.

Genesis was only founded 4 years ago, so lets give them a bit of time to establish their design cues. Unfair to compare them to brands that are soon celebrating their centenary.
I agree and its better than where they were years ago as Hyundai copying other brands directly with rarely anyone taking them seriously.
Even products under the Hyundai badge have improved dramatically in recent years, and that's true for most Korean automakers. One of the worst aspects of their vehicles in the past was their bland styling.
The Veloster N gave me hope in seeing a better Genesis Coupe.
Going forward they'll have to do more than offer a vehicle that just sits above the FR-S and quite possibly into the Supra's league.

It's crazy to think how far they've come in only 4 years as a separate brand.
Not that hard when Hyundai has been doing luxury since the 90's, starting with a Lexus LS knock off.

That's definitely fair, but even still they've made huge strides to go from making "knock offs" to making unique luxury sport sedans and SUVs.

Also, the 2020 G80 was spotted testing in Germany, I wonder if there's any design cues from it that we can expect to see on the GV80.

The grille shaped exhaust tips should be part of it and every new Genesis model from what it seems.
