Calligraphy vs GV 80 3.5 Prestige

I got tired of waiting on the GV 80 and bought a Calligraphy back in August. I absolutely love it, but I never stopped liking the GV.

I test drove the 2.5 AWD Prestige today and it reminded me of the Palisade - Plenty of pep for a car this size, but nothing special. Then I drove the 3.5 AWD Prestige and it is like a little rocket ship. I don’t drive with a lead foot, but I do like my HP, and it has definitely got a lot more get up and go.

The interior is luxurious and the tan, quilted Napa seats are gorgeous. I did notice what someone else mentioned about the driver’s seat feeling like it turned you in towards the console a little bit. I’m 6’2” and 220,so it might not be an issue if your not so wide.

Palisade dash and layout is more intuitive and easier on the eyes. When you look at the GV 80 dash it seems like overkill on the HVAC system and defrost controls. I much prefer the Palisade’s controls. The knurled rotary knob for the radio will take a little getting used to. I’m also hoping the dark blue contrast of the Dune interior grows on me. I learned something from the Genesis salesman that the Hyundai guys didn’t tell me and that is that the side mirror defrost function is tied to the rear window defroster.

So I finally found one at a not too ridiculous price ($900 over sticker) in the colors I like (Himalayan Gray and Dune) and ordered it today. I will have it delivered on Monday. Looking forward to reporting back on some real life comparisons of the two.

When it came getting sold the “extras” they wanted $3,200 for 6 yr/ 100,000 miles. Without too much horse trading, we settled at $1,795.

Heck, Life is short, I’m old and pissing away my kids inheritance anyway. 😅

Nice color change combination. Best of luck with it. I'm assuming you opted for the 3.5TT?

Yes. I got the 3.5. Drive it home to ATL from Chattanooga today. Great, quiet, ride, A lot more power than the Palisade, but honestly it was not any smoother than the Palisade.

When you step on it, there is a big difference. Exhilarating is a good adjective to describe it.

Interior wise, the navy blue dash and door trim is kind of weird. Would much prefer it with black. The Dune Napa leather is gorgeous.

The dash cluster centers around the HVAC system and a bunch of ever present directional arrows. Again, kind of weird.

The 12.3” screen is a great visual, but once again, the Palisade’s information on the screen is more intuitive and informative. In the right corner of the screen of the GV 80 you can have the time or temperature or a couple of other isolated things, but not a combination. Hopefully, this can be corrected with a software update.

That all being said, the GV 80 is a great driving head turner and I’m looking forward to putting it through its’ paces and reporting back in the coming days.

What part of atl are you in?
Love the combination. Really love the ultramarine blue/dune interior, really my first choice but I also love the Lima Red exterior. In the end I decided to go with the red w/beige interior. Should take delivery late Feb.

but there’s no denying the richness of the dune interior.
