I just bought a GV-70 1 1/2 weeks ago. It's the Sport Prestige package and Mauna Red. Unfortunately (!!!!), I got scraped on the side bumper by some idiot in a packing lot. To correct it I need to paint half of the front bumper so that the paint looks uniform across the entire bumper. I don't know exactly where the radar unit is located behind the bumper. The manual appears to indicate it is located behind the bumper some where close to the side of the car.

My problem gets worse. The paint on the GV 70 is metallic. So if the bumper is painted, the radar unit will not function as designed. The manual even states that the radar unit may (!) not work effectively if repainted.

Does anyone know how much of a degradation I will get? Does the whole system fail? Maybe someone with other Genesis's has faced this painting issue before.

I am sick to my stomach over this event as you can imagine.

Can anyone give me good news about this fix?
I don’t think you will have any issues. The radar sensors, as I believe, don’t like to have thick layers of paint covering them (more than what is necessary to cover with color and clear coat). A body shop will usually cover these “spots” so as not to add any additional paint. I’ve circled the areas in question in the enclosed picture. I don’t think you have any need to worry if they repaint the bumper, regardless of what kind of paint is used.
