just came back from Markham dealership

@GenesisFan the car displayed at Markham was a pre production model

here is what was noted:

  • dimension wise it feels bigger than it looks, especially the frontal hood mass portion
  • seating position is quite low for something considered an SUV
  • bottom of door looks roughly finished, as if gaps between metal can hide water and prone for corrosion. for those who has seen the bottom of doors on something like a ford flex, you know what I mean. hopefully production models are better finished
  • inside of storage pockets on doors looks cheap (shiny plastic) but somehow feels decent to the touch, again hoping its pre production issues
  • also paint on hood had a blemish dead centre, hopefully another pre production model issue
  • 3D gauges are impressive despite of some reports saying they don't work. too bad it only comes with top tier 3.5T trim
  • seats are comfortable, support wise, shape. more so than any lexus out there
  • rear seat very spacious. head room very good for something with a panaramic roof and "sporty" profile cut
  • visibility out all sides is excellent especially with the A-pillar glass

overall, as the car is as expected. no big deal-breaking flaw. feels more german than its japanese counterparts

for those interested, the facelifted G70 sedan was there too. it is a 2.0T AWD model

also checked out the 2022 tucson while at dealership. it does feel bigger inside likely due to lower floor layout of a FWD based chassis and lower beltline. with that said, it also fustrates me how some of the higher trim hyundai/kia cars have full digital dash displays while only top of line genesis cars in north america get the full digital cluster

I really appreciate you sharing your observations with us!

Did the front seats feel sporty enough? (bolsters, etc.)
the front seats...

would say they suffice for everyday sportiness. lots of support in all direction (6" average build here), and especially appreciate that extended thigh support. cushioning is only slightly softer than germans but firmer than typical japanese cars. bolsters are not obtrusive at all but haven't hit the track with this car yet ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) so not sure how well they'll hold. alcantara/suede inserts are perfectly balanced on grip and maneuverability - can get out of vehicle without peeling off pants

headrests unfortunately dont adjust tilt (a la mercedes) nor fore/aft (a la macan) but default location was fine. otherwise no complaints

comfortable seats by any definition. one of those designs where you get in, set and forget

in case anyone asked, the rear seats...just slightly flat on the back section but no real faults

Straight up, the canadian MSRP was a bit of an unpleasant surprise. These things aren't "cheap" anymore. Was expecting maybe a $5000-$7000+ to a G70 equivalent on which GV70 is based. This would have been a better incentive as a brand conquer vehicle in such a highly contested market

And do remember anyone not ordering a top tier 3.5T is stuck with that 8" LCD display when cars in a lower market offers full digital dash (be it in their top trim too, but still lower than an entry level GV70). See new Honda Civic, VW Taos and Hyundai's own Tucson etc...

Issue with the 8" LCD isn't that its smaller. Its that it is asymetical and looks a cheap substitute. Cars such as Porsche Panamera or Cayenne have an analog tach with surrounding and equally small LCD's and effect does not look like an after thought. Or most Japanese cars have analog tach and speedo left and right pods with LCD display nestled in middle, which also looks ok

Considering both the MSRP and dash LCD issue (ordered a 2.5T Advanced Plus), had a split second of walking from the deal but a quick scan of autotrader of what is available for $60k cdn convinced otherwise. (What did everyone here cross-shop their GV70 with now that the MSRP has been released?)
