I was correct in my assumption. You did not shut the vehicle off. Again the vehicle must be off for the door to open by simply pressing it. Time for you to read the manual. Or keep being a pompus ass and run out of gas.
Did you mean pompous?
Wow... just when I thought this was a forum for people to help others...
Doors were unlocked, shut the vehicle off, and it still didn't open. So I asked a valid question.
But thanks for your comment, although it wasn't warranted or requested if you felt the need to be nasty about it.
Anyway, I got it open... didn't run out of gas.... have a blessed day, though.

It IS a forum to help folks. I gave you a VALID reason as to why the door would not open. Your reply SHOULD have been - oh I forgot to mention my vehicle was turned off. Instead you made a nasty comment and not you are for some reason shocked! I see that you enjoy dishing out nastiness but then cry victim when the same is done to you. Nice try. Guaranteed you had the car running, you are just embarrassed to admit it. Otherwise you would explain how you got the door open.

LOL... Who hurt you??
You said "Vehicle must be off"... that was it... Was I supposed to determine that you were stating that as a solution?
To end this headache, I will apologize for assuming you were being facetious.
Are we good now? Friends again??? 🙂😊

I love how you play victim after launching an assault against me. Yes of course you should have assumed it was a solution. It was provided to you in direct response to your question. Again, you have yet to explain how you magically fixed the problem. We all know you turned the car off per my advice. Otherwise I challenge you to post your solution.

Sir...(or Ma'am) no need for a challenge. LOL
This is what I didn't understand: I've had the vehicle for over a year, and this was the first time the door didn't open. I was at the pump, unlocked the doors, turned it off, and still nothing...so I just started it back up and drove home. After I got home (from the gas station), I tried opening the door again after the vehicle had been off/shut down for a few hours, and it opened. (I still don't have an answer as to why it didn't work initially so I can prevent it from happening in the future, but I did turn the car off before posting this question).
Before I acted on my warranty, I figured I'd turn here for some advice.
You answered...
I see now that you provided an answer. Therefore I apologize again for taking your 4-word solution as a dig. (I'm sure you can understand that TONE can be misconstrued via text).
If you want to continue this, let me know... I need a debate partner... 😊
What's your LinkedIn? (Not sarcastic...honestly, I appreciate the banter...)

We had the same issue. Very frustrating; erratic it would open one time not the next. Finally to prove it was happening I videoed the failure of it to open. Drove it to dealership and did not need video as service dept could not open it. Told us this was the 4th one where some part had failed. Part replaced it now works. Is this a safety issue? Is there a need for a recall? Seems they should have a manual cable release in the back of the SUV.

Thank you, Steve. I've had the car for over a year, and that was the first time that happened. My next step would have been to take it to the dealer, but it opened later that evening, and I was able to get gas. Now, since it sounds like something they are aware of, I'll still make the appointment to get it looked at and replaced before it happens again. I too agree that there should be some manual cable of some sort, but hopefully, it doesn't happen again before I get it looked at.
I appreciate your comment! 😊 Have a great day!!

Welcome to the forum @SteveL! Glad to hear that you were able to get it fixed. Did the dealer tell you what exactly went wrong for the gas cap to not open?

I really feel sorry for your family...
Likewise. Seems like they have to deal with your poor reading comprehension on a daily basis. They you have a nasty vindictive streak. Must suck for them. Asking for my linedin in an attempt to sabotage my employment? Who communicates on a topic like this through linkedin? I work for myself in a highly specialized field and there is nothing you could every do to me anyway. I love how you could not help yourself but show your true colors you nasty person. Next time turn your car off, you wont have the problem. If your car is not set to automatically open the doors after turning off you need to unlock your doors. This was 100 percent your problem. Nasty user error.

Not that I want to jump into this adversarial conversation, but I have had the same issue with my 2021 GV80.
Yes, I know to turn off the engine, but still sometimes the gas cap door won’t open. Oddly, I find that if I repeatedly hit the door unlock button, that works.

Hey Monty, I know and I apologize for the exchange you see here. I've blocked them as they added nothing to the thread. While I shouldn't have engaged to any extent in the first place, I wish I'd known about the block function sooner.
Anywho, thanks for confirming that simply shutting off the car isn’t the answer. It actually happened to me again 2 days ago and I had to pry it open. Unfortunately my appt isn't for a while so I'll just have to keep doing that until I can get them to look at it.
Hopefully they figure out the problem and issue a recall.
Have a wonderful evening 😀

It is a locking gas cover door. When the doors are locked (or the vehicle is running), the gas cap access door is locked. It happened once on my GV80, but hasn't happened on my GV70. Pressing the lock/unlock button does make sense if it is just s stuck relay or solenoid. But you should definitely have it checked out by the dealer.

I have the same issue of the gas cap door not opening. Engine is off and the driver side door is open. Sometimes it does open, sometimes it doesn't. Pressing the lock switch a dozen times seems to get it to work. I can't believe Genesis didn't put in a backup like a mechanical release level or wire to open the door. Waiting to get into the dealer. Wait times at my dealership for the appointment is months! Will have to live with the issue for some time.
