Car Buzz wrote an interesting article about how the GV70 should have its German rivals worried.

Style matters and the GV70 will have plenty of it.

Genesis finally has an SUV in its lineup in the form of the bold and luxurious GV80, so Hyundai's luxury arm is now turning its attention to the smaller GV70 which will compete with strong-selling rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class and the BMW X3.

Beyond a couple of heavily camouflaged spy shots, we haven't gotten a clear look at the new GV70 yet, but AtchaCars on YouTube has come to the rescue with a few renderings of the luxury crossover. Using a camouflaged image of the GV70 as a base, the designer takes us through the editing process to reveal the potential styling features beneath. These renderings only show the rear three-quarter view, but there's a lot to like.

Like the bigger GV80, the GV70 rendering uses a split-taillight arrangement and the central Genesis lettering, but the smaller SUV has a few distinct styling cues to set it apart. Appearing more low-slung than its big brother, the GV70's intricate C- and D-pillar design gives it a unique appearance.

Along the sides, there are distinct character lines, especially along the rear door. At the back are vertically-shaped exhaust outlets lower down. To our eyes, it's got a sportier look than the GV80 from this angle and an almost sports wagon-like stance. The designers rendered the GV70 in a couple of colors, with the black looking especially aggressive. It remains to be seen if that tapering roofline has an impact on passenger space or if Genesis has been able to find a balance between aesthetics and practicality.

Previous spy shots show that the GV70 is lower and narrower than the GV80, and it has a similar split headlight design and crest grille. Power is expected to come from a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 304 horsepower, along with a bigger 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that generates 380 hp. An eight-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or all-wheel-drive setups are anticipated.

If it's anything as capable as the G70 sedan, the GV70 should provide plenty of competition for its premium-badged rivals, especially if it is priced as well as the larger GV80. We're holding thumbs that the GV70 will show its face sometime before the end of the year.
