In a few weeks time I should know what we in the UK are being charged per kW by Ionity, however it took me about 6 attempts and 2 chargers to test this. Thing is it was 3 attempts at the 2nd charger but that one I did different.y. In theory you do:
  • Plug in car
  • Swipe card
Instead what worked for me was:
  • Press start
  • Swipe card
  • Plug in car and hold the plug in place
The latter worked, I'm not sure if it is a time out issue or just you needing to hold the plug in firmly when it starts to charge (seem to remember an Ioniq 5 reviewer finding the same)

Hi, Genesis UK sent out an email in late November with the revised Ionity and Shell recharge rates. Ionity is 24p per kWh (plus 35p transaction charge), Shell Recharge is 79p on 50kW chargers and 85p on 150kW and above.

I have found (by trial and error) that the heavy cables on the Ionity chargers twist the CCS unit slightly in the car's charging socket and this doesn't allow the car to lock it in place. I always hold an Ionity charger in place unti the car has locked it in. I can't remember what order I do the swipe/plug in but it's the holding the plug in place that avoids the failed initialisations for me.

Cheers for that. Almost what I'm paying off peak at home at present (23.35p). Only two Ionity chargers on my semi-regular long route alas, though one if suitable placed for the return leg.

Hi, I received my GV 70 this week but only received a genesis Shell partnership card for charging. Did anyone receive a separate card for IONITY? The literature that came with the card only spoke about using shell and downloading the shell app. There was nothing about using Ionity so I’m not sure if you just use the same Genesis card there. Also does anyone know how are you pay at the Ionity charger - with the shell app you set up an account. I spoke to my Genesis assistant and he said yes, you get discounted rates on Ionity, but couldn’t explain the situation with the card for how it works..

The one card works on both Shell and Ionity chargers and gives the discounted rates. I never use the apps, only the card. Well hardly ever. I made the mistake of using the Ionity app once (not)thinking that because I had a card the Ionity account would give me the discount. Doh! Ended up paying the full rate for that charge.

You have to set up a Shell account that is linked to the Genesis card and has your payment card stored. You don't need a separate payment card when you are charging. There should be a set of instructions for this with the Shell card.
