As the title states, I purchased a new GV80. I've been a Ford guy all my life and have owned nothing but Fords. The time came to replace our 2018 F150 Platinum, largely due to color remorse (magma red). We considered the Explorer ST, in my mind this was the best all around vehicle. It can tow upwards of 5000 lbs, handles great being a ST product, room for 7 (comfortably), high HP and TQ and decent fuel mileage. The only thing that kept me from buying it was the overall look. Sure it looks nice, but its not a head turner. It just lacks something in the looks department.
Next we looked at the Porsche Macan. My wife loved the Porsche (as any female would) but I quickly found all of its downsides. I dont particularly like the way it looks, and you're paying a lot just for the Porsche name. It lacks a lot of the new tech on the inside and is relatively small. I hate the fact that they leave all the blank buttons to remind you that you didn't spend enough. Also, the maintenance costs are a downside. I must day it did drive nice and flat though.
Next we looked at the Audi SQ5. Typical Audi, great form and function. Very nice interior sounds amazing build quality 👌. But the Audi lacks soul. Its too mechanical.
Last, we went to look a loaded Palisade. While walking around the lot looking for one we walked by a burgundy color GV80. My wife looks over at me and says "oooo I like that", I quickly shot it down and said "stop looking thats too expensive". At that point I had an very vague idea of what Genesis was and thought the Genesis SUV was $90k plus. We continued to search for the loaded Palisade but did not find one. We walked by another GV80, a silver one, and said what the heck lets just look at it. As we're walking up to it I notice its got a great presence to it. Peering through the windows I see a very nice interior, at this point the stalking salesman grabbed the keys and unlocked it so we could see the inside better. I was amazed at the level of the attention to detail, the quality of the materials used, and the fit and finish of everything...and this was only a base model. I was shocked to see a $60k price on the window sticker. After some back and forth with the salesman I told him I wanted to see one in white. He informed me they would be receiving a white Prestige in a couple of days. Fast forward to that day and we're back looking at the Prestige, our eyes lit up as we saw it drive up. WOW! This thing looks amazing in white! Took it for a drive and we were sold. We wasted no time in purchasing it as there were already two other people there waiting to see it after we got back from our test drive.
Its worth noting that a new 2021 F150 Limited was at the top of my list as that represents the best value in terms of function, capability and features. Having had various F150s in years prior and a decreasing need for a tow vehicle we decided to opt for something different.
