I just put a deposit on a 3.5 GV80 Prestige package, scheduled to arrive October 5th. The sales guy said he didn’t think my model came with a spare tire because of its size. When I test drove one, it did have a spare but it wasn’t the Prestige package. Can someone confirm? It seems odd to not have a spare tire in a vehicle, esp one this pricey.

Hummm. I pick up my new 3.5T ADVANCED+ AWD with 3rd row seats in 4 days. Now you've got me wondering too. Without 3rd row, I think I saw a pic of a huge storage area back there, so your salesman is likely correct. Many cars these days include a can of slime & a pump. Totally not acceptable, IMHO!

3.5 Prestige in the US does not have a spare tire.

You can buy a spare tire from a lower model and install it in the cargo area where the spare was supposed to go. It’s an 18” if I recall.
So there is a space to hold a spare, it’s just not included with the vehicle? Just trying to make sure I understand. That would be a great option to be able to throw a donut in there just in case. I’ve had to use the spare in my current vehicle exactly zero times in a decade but you know what they say about taking chances… lol

There is a space (to me it doesn't look big enough to hold a spare tire, this may be due to the additional equipment the back seats of the Prestige have like cooling and heating and electric adjustments), but there is a tray in there for storage (see attached photo). I don't know if it will fit in the tray or if the tray has to be removed. But keep in mind you also will need a jack and a lug wrench as those don't come with the car since there's no spare tire.

It’s underneath all of that. Here’s the size of the compact spare that comes with certain models of GV80. You will still need the jack and space sorties that come with the spare.

I'm in the market for a 3.5L Prestige and a compact spare is absolutely necessary. There is much misinformation written about this. Are you sure there is adequate space below the shown tray to accommodate the compact tire?

The 3.5 Prestige comes with a 22-inch tire which will not fit in the spare tire location. The 2.5 Prestige comes with a 20-inch tire which does fit in the spare tire location. The 22 inch comes with a "fix a flat kit"

Whether the wheel is 19", 20" or 22" the wheel/tire diameter is the same. So the storage area should accommodate the Wheel/tire. You can on the Prestige replace the 22" tire with a 20" because the aspect ratio is different, but the diameter is exactly the same.

That is correct. I also have the 3.5 Prestige with no spare. They provide some crappy fix a flat kit instead. I agree that a vehicle of this price should definitely have a spare, even if it’s just a donut.

Love my 3.5 GV80 Prestige but unfortunately no spare due to size. Have read about a few owners buying an extra rim and tire for road trips to have a spare handy just in case.

You have the Prestige GV80. There is a storage tray in the rear cargo area. Others have indicated that the tray comes out. Below the tray supposedly, there is a space for a compact spare. Have you ever viewed this space? If so does it look large enough to accommodate a compact spare?
The relevance of a spare comes into play if you in a dead cell area and experience a side tire wall puncture that can't be repaired or injected with tire foam. I have had this happen. It is smart to have a spare.

Ugh…so much misinformation…let me try again to clear it up.

A spare does NOT look like what’s on your car. Saying I can’t fit a 22” spare because it’s too big…yeah, that’s not a spare. No matter what size wheel you have, 19”, 20” or 22”, the spare is the same for all vehicles…it’s a compact spare measuring 19” (T175/80R19). Under the cargo area, in front of the battery, is a molded recess in the floor of the GV80 (remove the plastic cargo box…it’s there). I cannot confirm a spare will fit in the GV80 with three rows, but it very well may. If you want a spare, buy one from Genesis. You’ll need a jack as well as the spare tire kit only comes with a wrench and lug stud.

So…again…you don’t buy a spare in the size that’s currently on the vehicle. It’s not 1970…cars rarely come with full sized spares as there is no room for them. Spares today (for the most part) are compact spares, typically called a “donut”. The donut is the same diameter as the other wheels (all 19”, 20” and 22” wheels are the SAME DIAMETER (circumference)…as the wheel size grows, the tire sidewall shrinks…the overall diameter remains the same.

I am aware of the same diameter, no matter the size. My concern, is there adequate space under the tray for the compact tire in the PRESTIGE model. Some sales people have said there is no room. Could be they were too lazy to remove the tray and look.

On the other GV80 message board, a guy with a Prestige already did it. It fits.

That's good news.
I looked up your posting history and saw that you in February were promised a gv80 to be had in the spring but never happened. You also said dealer now tells you mid Sept. or Oct.. Was this on a prestige?
A dealer recently told me a prestige model will arrive in mid Sept. and a $3k deposit will lock in the vehicle. I now wonder if the Sept. arrival is real or the beginning of months of delay.

Wow…was it February? And here it is I’m thinking I ordered March. Ugh! I can’t believe I’m waiting this long for a vehicle AND I’m paying way above cost…which I NEVER DO…you would think if the dealership is making $5,000 on the sale of the car (MSRP vs. cost), I’d get slightly better treatment. Insane how awful this experience has been. My patience is wearing thin! There are numerous other vehicles out there that compete well with a 3.5 Prestige. Have been taking a serious look at the Volvo XC90 - T8 Inscription. They will fly me AND my wife to Sweden for FREE to see it built, provide a free night in a 5-star hotel with free meals, allow me to drive it around Europe for weeks if I want, and also take $8,000 off MSRP. When you combine that with the $7,500 rebate from the Feds. cause it’s a hybrid…it’s far cheaper than the GV80 and arguably just as nice. It doesn’t hurt it makes over 400 HP but get over 30 mpg.
