STOP/START CABLE/HARNESS EXTENSION DEFEAT...

1935 Views 27 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  raggedy
A few companies are offering a cable/harness extension that defeats the Stop/Start feature so, it isn't required to manually press the button to turn off, what I consider a dangerous feature, after starting the vehicle.

I have added a similar cable/harness to my Alfa Romeo Giulia. I found one from Aliexpress (I found the one for my Giulia on Aliexpress for less than half the price of the cable/harness extensions here in the States. It works flawlessly.)

The one I found for the GV70 on Aliexpress is listed for: 2020-2021 models. The switches on the GV70 were changed for the 2023 model year so, I don't know if the present offering on Aliexpress fits the newer model year car. (Yes, I've left a message with the vendor on Aliexpress. And, it is China and the weekend so, I haven't received a response as to whether their current switch listed below works on the 2023 models year. I suspect I will at some point.)

I am not a fan of sticking in a toothpick, or a piece of plastic in the switch, or even defeating the hood latch to fool the car.
I know I can just push the button to turn it off each time.
For me, it's just so nice not to have to do that.
I know it's a small thing, but as the fellow said, "It's the small things in life that make big differences."

Has anyone found a Stop/Start cable/ harness extension for a reasonable price here in the States?
If you have, could you please share your experiences?
Thanks...

I just ordered a harness for my 2020 Palisade from Autostop Eliminator:

I asked if they'll be making one for the GV70 and they said they could start work on one if someone was willing to bring their car to Fairmont WV where it would take them one day to make a device. They'll allow the owner to stay with the car and pay the owner 300 dollars for their time.

Same for the GV80?

Same for the GV80?
here is a contact email for you: [email protected]

I'd guess they'd want to do the GV80 too, so if you're near their location I'd do it!

I would if I could. Far from WV--Northern IN. It would make for a great road trip, though.
I'll stick with my bread bag closing tab. :)
I am going to take a bit of a gamble, and order the unit I listed in my first post from China.

I'll let you all know when I receive it and how difficult it was to install, and of course, how well it works.

How does this affect the vehicle warranty?
I'm all for having the ability to disable the Autostop feature, but I have a couple questions/concerns:
  1. Does the installed hardware (switch) also inhibit or prohibit data into the PCM/ECM software which may be used for initial or remote start, or other?
  2. Does installing the after-market Autostop hardware effect vehicle warranty?
Nothing gets recorded into the ECU, and it doesn't affect any other features of the car. As for warranty, if for some reason you fry your electronics I'd guess Hyundai/Genesis would try to blame the harness.

You can pull the harness at any time and nobody would know it was ever added (assuming it's a plug-and-play device and not one that requires wire splicing.

The product is a harness. It does not require splicing. I have a similar harness from the same vendor for my Alfa Romeo Giulia. It took me less than 2 minutes, literally, to install, and it works perfectly.

@raggedy is more than likely correct. "Hyundai/Genesis would try to blame the harness."

And, @raggedy is also correct, "You can pull the harness at any time and nobody would know it was ever added."

This is a present for my sister, who just purchased a GV70. So, I do not have the experience as to how hard this harness would be to install in a GV70. I assume installation should be as straightforward as it was for the Alfa...

1. Pry off the switch plate.
2. Unplug the connector to the switch
3. Put the harness between the two connections
4. Push the switch plate back into place.

It truly was that simple, but as I said, I haven't added one of these to a 2023 GV70 yet.
When I do, I will show the installation with pictures.

The vendor states they could make one for a GV80, however, they need a wiring diagram/schematic for the switch.
Belows is a picture of the harness.

Shark Racing makes one for the Palisade, but theirs requires splicing, so I bought the plug n play one from AutoStop Eliminator. That one looks really easy to install by the video, but I haven't installed it yet.

It's a decent sized harness so I am not sure how AutoStop will come up with an easy installation in the GV

Let us know how your sister's installation in her GV70 goes @Richo

thanks

If you noticed, the vendor is in China. So, it will take 3 weeks to get here.
(Again, the same vendor I purchased the harness for the Alfa.

I thought it was pretty cool, if they had the schematic for the GV80, they would make one.
I'm new here. Is there a Genesis tech on this site?

We have several techs on the Alfa site.
No, not because they break down.
(Lol, but like all high-line Euro stuff they have more issues, compared to Asian cars.)
Alfa guys just like monkeying with their cars to handle better a go faster... a lot!

If a Genesis tech could chime in and send the vendor a schematic of the switch for GV80 owners...
GV80 owners wouldn't have to resort to using a bread tie.

A bread tie doesn't belong on a Genesis.
I suspect GV owners would spend $40 bucks,
and put the bread tie back on the loaf of bread, where it belongs

FYI, the vendor listing now says it works on the GV70, 2021 thru 2023. Please let us know how the installation goes.

I will try to take a few pictures and show how easy/hard the harness is to install. **

*I texted with the vendor on the Aliexpress site,
and he confirmed their switch fits the 2023 model GV70.
He then updated his auction listing on Aliexpress. s
I hope he is correct. We will see in 3 or so weeks.)

*The vendor on Aliexpress needs pictures of the GV80 connectors to fabricate a compatible harness.
Hopefully, a GV80 owner or a Geneis TECHNICIAN will post a picture of the connectors.
On the OTHER GV forum, someone was helpful and posted a picture of the schematic for the switch...

I received my start/stop defeat harness from China. I'm not sure if I mentioned it, but my sister is the main driver, and the stop/start feature doesn't bother her in the least. She actually thinks it's cool. (I can't understand that, but as they say, "It is what it is." I can't imagine the stress the start/stop causes the starter motor and the battery Yeah, I can. Several here on this forum have had low battery concerns, and this feature sure doesn't help. Oh well, it has a good warranty anyway.)

So, now I have the GV70 start/stop defeat harness and she doesn't want me to install it. If anyone out there wants to purchase it from me, I will send it to them and they can see if they like it. No risk. You can pay me after you install it.

I will sell it for $50 dollars, including shipping. You won't have to wait three weeks to have it shipped from China. I will put it in a USPS flat-rate box and you will have it in three or four days. If you are happy with it, you can pay me with Venmo or Zell. I know the company manufactures quality products. I've been driving around for 2 years with a similar harness made for my Alfa from the same company.
Someone will be able to toss out their bread tie.

Did anyone confirm if this will work for the GV80?
has anyone pried off that faceplate? is it just held in with clips? that harness looks decent sized; will that thing even fit behind that button panel?

I installed an autostop eliminator on my Palisade, but there is plenty of room behind that center panel where the button is located.
I installed this kit on my GV70. The faceplate is held in very firmly with clips but will pop off with sufficient force. There is an opening in the dashboard structure that you can push the excess harness into if you want. Can confirm the harness fits and the faceplate snaps into place.
Can you show us what you used to pry it off and where?
Instructions included show that you have to remove the side fusebox cover as the way in, so I don't know which is easiest and will cause fewer rattles and/or loose panels, long term.

There's a trim removal tool included with the kit (the orange piece in Richo's post). I started with the tool at the left hand side of the faceplate and pried up until I could get a finger underneath. Felt like it was going to break but it didn't.
