I called around the US and find that most dealers are marking the GV70 up between $6,000 to $8,500. Is anyone else experiencing this price gouging?
The back story is that after 5 visits with a great Genesis salesman, I placed a order for the 3.5 GV 70 Prestige. This same dealer received their first 3.5 GV70 Sport on 6/11/2021. I was able to sit in it during its prep and played with the controls and started it up. I scheduled a test drive with our salesman. BUT, when we arrived, our longstanding honorable salesman was very ill so I was introduced to a different salesman and met the sales manager for the first time.
They would not allow a test drive, they demanded a deposit, and they were going to keep a copy of my drivers license for "their records". I asked if they were going to mark up the GV70 like they did the GV80. Yes, they are marking it up about $6,000 above MSRP because of "supply and demand". WTF.
I cancelled everything and walked out. If I had met either of those two sales people on my first visit, I never would have returned to that dealership. It was only because of the original salesman that I was so enthused about the GV70. I hope he gets well.
At the same time, I called around and made a deposit for a 3.5 prestige because they had the color I wanted. It has a VIN and a window sticker and a MSRP which I will pay full price, but no more. The dealer is not in my home state. The out of state salesman promised me that they would not mark it up. I have a receipt of my deposit with the MSRP sales price as being the sales price. However, I do not have anything in writing that they will not mark it up when it arrives in a few weeks. Time will tell.
Anyone else having these issues?
p.s. I am in my 70's and not new to this game, but I will not tolerate them

.
Safe travels.
