Only 600 mi on new GV70 and the trunk refuses to open from outside button on wiper housing. It works from key fob, inside button, but not from manual pressure on the back button. Anyone know a workaround? Did I hit a switch by mistake to deactivate?? Such a nice car, hate to start having issues.

Ya know I’ve been trying various things and what I’m thinking is if I don’t carry the key, doors are locked (except driver door) the trunk is locked too. Unlocked all doors and the button worked w/o key present.🤯

@Pammy56 the info should be on page 5-8 of the manual:

To open the lift gate:
1. Make sure you have the smart key in your possession
2. Press either the liftgate open/close button on the vehicle or press and hold the liftgate unlock button (3) on the smart key for more than one second.

* liftgate open / close button will only operate when the smart key is within 28 in. from the lift gate.

I had the same thing happen but for me it was because the vehicle was locked and I did not have my key fob on me..If the doors are locked you will not be able to open the back hatch without the fob, if the vehicle is not locked you will not need the fob.. Hopefully this is just a learning curve issue as for me but things do go bad and you still have the warranty. Thats what warranties are for.. Good Luck to ya.

That is inconsistent with my experience. I have a GV80, and if the doors are unlocked, then I can open the lift gate using the outside button…and my key fob can be inside the house.
If your doors are fully unlocked then it should allow you to use the outside button as well. If only the driver side door is unlocked, then you would need to have the key fob with you. It makes sense since you don't want some random person being able to just walk by and press that button right? :)

Yes, learning hurts! Thanks

Yes, that is what’s happening- got it now.
