Uncomfortable Driver's Seat

9009 Views 42 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  Jackmccrory
Just got a new 2022 GV80 3.5T Advanced. Love the car, but having serious issue with the drivers seat being very uncomfortable on the buttocks. The bottom seat cushion feels like there is a bar or something hard under the seat and after a short while (5 min or so) it causes discomfort. I tried adjusting the seat every which way - including the front button that extends under the knees (it also raises or lowers) and I still feel this hard protrusion under the seat cushion. I have the Ergo seat and I wonder if it is the air bladder underneath? I sat in the passenger and rear seats and they do not have this problem, they are very comfortable.

Your seat cushion may be inflated (assuming your GV80 includes this feature). The small button on the driver’s seat side controls this.
Thanks, Ckon, for your reply. Yes, the seat does inflate. I tried to deflate the seat (with the small button), but at the lowest setting you still feel the hard bladder under the seat cushion. I wonder if it is just my seat and the bladder (or whatever it is under the seat cushion) is not retracting fully. I am bringing it to Genesis service to have it checked out.

I hope they find and fix the issue. Good luck. FWIW, you may exercise the mechanism by trying to over-inflate and then deflate a few times. Probably won’t work but worth the time to try it. Also exercise the seat massage to see if it finds the correct “rest” position for the bladders. Make sure the bottom bladder is engaged. Again: Good luck.

Awsome suggestions! Maybe it just needs a break in period. I will work through some cycles and see if it helps. thanks again =)
Good luck! You aren't the only one! It is the ONLY part of my GV80 I dislike. Other than the winter months, I use a cushion. In winter, i need my "seater heater", and a cushion blocks the heat.

Dang, this is not encouraging. I agree, love the car, but if the seat hurts, that's kind of critical. I am thinking to put a seat cushion, but as you said, that affect the seat heating and i presume cooling also. not good. dissaspointing!

Had the same issue with my gv70 that does not have the seat cushion inflator. It hurt like ****. After about 2.5 months the problem went away completely. Either I broke it in or I got used to it. Should not have happened on this type of vehicle but for those who have this problem it might go away like mine did.

Finally, someone has the same issue as I do! The driver's seat is very hard on the bottom. I have the Prestige package with all the adjustments but nothing I do makes this seat any more comfortable. Very difficult for long-distance driving.

I too have the 3.5 Prestige and my seats are super comfortable so I don't have the same issue, so I'd say to take it in and have them look at it. Just to be sure the seat isn't stuck in some strange configuration. Tell them others don't have the same issue. I'm on the thin side with little padding of my own so I'd feel something like this for sure if it was there. But we take long trips and there is never a seat problem.

I have the same issue, but on the passenger side
I have this issue since I got the GV80, but on the passenger’s side. It feels like a rod going right across the seat and that side does not have an inflator.

Have you tried the Smart Posture Care System? It's where you put in your height, sitting height and weight and it will set the seat, mirrors, steering wheel and HUD for you. It's just a thought. Page 5-38 in your owners manual talks about it. I started with that and then tweaked from there.

Setup | Vehicle Settings | Seat | Smart Posture Care then enter driver's info then press Posture Analysis | Adjust Posture | Save Current Posture.

Then you can save it as setting 1 or 2 in the door. I used it as a starting point then tweaked the outside mirrors, HUD and seat to be a little more comfortable for me. Just thinking about how I set up the car that might be different from the way you set it up.

I completely agree. I have a G 80 prestige and I’ve taken it back to the dealer twice for the stiffness of the seat. I do believe that the bladders and the ergo rollers mat be causing the problem. Took mine to a independent auto upholstery shop. Was told that seat is so internally complex that they will not even try to add any additional padding. I purchased a high-quality seat cushion from Amazon which helps somewhat but of course then you can no longer use the seat massages or the ventilation. Genesis has received multiple complaints about these seats according to their customer support department. But as of now there’s no plans to engineer any type of improvement to the existing units

Good to know, I was thinking about upgrading next year but maybe I’ll have to consider other manufactures. Will check this out before, (for sure) signing on the dotted line.

Yes, I used the smart posture seat system and at first i didn't like the position. But i tried it for a while and I am starting to really like it. The seat seems to be more comfortable when using the suggested smart posture. I noticed that the bottom is still a bit hard, but it doesn't hurt as much as before - however, I think maybe I am either breaking it in more, or getting used to it?
So the dealer said they could not duplicate the seat discomfort issue. I told the service clerk where to put your hands on the seat cushion but I don't think the technician knew where to look or feel. They probably just sat in it and thought it was fine. I then went over to the sales dept where they had a new gv80 with the ergo seat, i went to feel and compare to mine, and it also seemed similar where you can feel the air bladders under the seat cushion. I am thinking this is the normal design and it is not my specific car that has an issue. But I think the seat is breaking in a little, its not as bad as before. however, it could be that I am sitting deeper into the seat since i am using the smart seat posture feature. I just adjust the part under the knee to extend out a little bit more for leg support. otherwise, I am using the smart posture suggested adjustement.

Interesting, my passenger and rear seats seem to be ok. I only have the issue with the drivers seat with the ergo air bladders

Man, sorry to hear that. I hope they can improve this. in the meantime, I am just trying to get used to it. I bought a "purple simple seat cushion" and it feels good - but it makes you sit higher up, and it impedes the heated and cooled seats. The ergo seat massage is also less effective so I think I will return the purple cushion.
