Went to my local Gen dealer in March and was ready to plunk down cash on a top o' the line GV80 in red on black. All they had were the lower tier GVs and I was told to I'd have to order it to my spec. I guess they didn't expect the top model to be popular and none were left ANYWHERE. Got a call soon after saying that most likely it would have to be a 2022 and we were in the "retooling" phase of the factory for the coming new models. Great. Just checked on my order yesterday and was hoping a VIN was produced or something. Anything. No dice. They said a "chip shortage" was delaying car manufacturing in the entire endustry. I'm a patient guy, but if Summer hits and I don't have a car or more details, I might have to switch to another manufacturer. That would be a bummer.

TEMPTING! Thank you for the lead.
Although, not thrilled about the $5k inflated asking price. I guess when something is kinda rare capitalism takes over. I'll shoot this to my dealer and see if they can work something out.

I have heard rumors that the 2022 model will cost more because so many dealers were able to get more for them for the 2021s that Hyundai is going to raise the base price so that they get more of that money and not the dealerships. Even with the increase they are still less than comparable (if you can find them) Mercedes, BMW, etc. so some are willing to pay it. It's not always the dealership that causes the increase. When I ordered mine, I waited 7 months for it to arrive and before I took possession (which was 12 hours after it came off the truck) there were three bids on my car if my purchase fell through. This caused the price of mine to go up slightly. So it's not always the capitalism of the dealership but demand for the product.

It can't increase by much.
Not much beyond the average year-to-year we see.

The only pricing concern should be some any ADM. On the Telluride its insane...

Thanks again for the leads here. Haven't heard back from my home dealer on these and I don't expect to. I called the one in NY and they have it in stock and want to sell it. They're offering me a DEAL at $10K OVER sticker. Tax, license out the door- $88K. I can't do that. That's like 3 Hyundai Elantras. So much for ultra-luxury at a reasonable price.

I guess I'll be waiting for my 2022 GV80 to be delivered. Hope it comes early Summer and not Fall. I will press my dealership to commit to sticker price and don't waste my time with any backdoor shenanigans.

Have you tried talking to another dealer?

Yeah...I'm not sure what I would gain by talking to another dealer. I've spoken to 2 dealers already. BOTH say the 3.5 Prestige is almost impossible to get. If you find one, the premium puts the car out of a reasonable range. According to one dealer, they won't do an inventory swap for this model because it's the golden ticket. Then you have do deal with the sales tactics I just endured to get me to bite. I LOATHE dealerships and the games they play. I will stick this out for as long as I can. I plan on driving other vehicles in my range if I get too impatient. I have a ticking time bomb forcing my hand called "16 year old taking my current car in the late Summer." So I'm motivated.

Can I ask, what makes you think the 2022 will be any less than the 2021s?

I don't expect the 2022 GV to be cheaper than the 2021. Like most car makers, the new model year will be more expensive. Will it be $5K more? 10K? Will it be close to the same but the dealerships see the opportunity to jack the price by $15K? Maybe. They will price themselves out of this market. The BIG car makers are most likely already retooling their cars' offerings to match the GV. Genesis has a good thing going as long as they can offer more for less. If they creep into more for the same, they've lost.

Bottom line: I don't want to pay more than sticker. We all know there is wiggle room. Anything more than sticker is a money grab. They've given the Hyundai the keys to the castle when it comes to the luxury market in the Genesis. And from what I'm seeing very early on, they're trying hard to blow it.

I don't own one yet. Me loyalty obviously has stipulations.

I agree with ShaneCT. Genesis USA seems to be doing everything to discourage loyalty. I "reserved" a top of the line GV80 over a year ago, and never heard from Genesis or my local Genesis (Hyundai) dealer. 3.5T Prestiges are almost impossible to find, but lesser models seem plentiful in my area (Mid-Atlantic). But I'm surprised dealers are gouging. The Genesis dealer in Bowie, Maryland advertises online prices that are as much as $3/4k below MSRP! I've now "reserved" a GV70 Sport Prestige, but after the GV80 roll-out, I'm not too optimistic. Genesis "concierge" says they will "keep me informed of availability".

I agree, The US model for dealerships is outdated and is fast becoming a pitfall for auto manufacturers and customers alike. In the case of the Genesis Dealers, they are straight up murdering the value proposition of the Genesis Brand and will definitely hurt its growth if it continues. US dealers even sued Genesis/Kia Hyundai Motor Group so they would not have to setup separate showrooms/lots for the Genesis brand.

What is ruining it for me right now is that US dealerships have an infatuation with the 50 shades of gray color options and base models. 95% of what they stock are some version of Grey, Silver, Black and White/ Like this topic states, US dealer stocked more 2.5L base models and can't move them but ordered such low stock of the 3.5L Prestige that it's making it harder to purchase what we want. They didn't expect the upper Trims to be so popular because of their outdated thinking and them trying to force market trends instead of letting the consumers choose what they want.

I can't even find a fun color in the GV80 that's not paired with a dull Black interior. Delarships should be stocking the 3.5L Advanced Plus 3 row and the 3.5 Prestige. Genesis needs to limit the Black interior. It dulls the look of the luxurious cabin and dealerships tend to order only Black interiors with every color. I'm so frustrated with this. Black should not be an Interior option for the Adriatic Blue, Cardiff Green or Lima Red under the 3.5L Prestige and Advanced Plus Trims. Any Customer wanting those fun colors are rarely likely to choose the dulled out black/gray interior.

any luck getting your 2022 gv 80 by summer? we just ordered one & they told us 3-4 months before the first one hits the usa
Well, my dealer told me they had a few coming in and I chose the Cardiff Green/Green and that it is scheduled to be here around sept. 21st. I don't know if it will be a 2022 though. But When I talked to another dealer a while back he said if I were to order one back then it would be a MY2022 because the factory had/was retooling for that model year. So, I'm thinking mine might be a 2022.

it should be a 2022 we ordered a alta white & dune 2 weeks ago & they told us oct delivery & it will be a 22
That would be perfect! I would be the only one in my entire city that has a GV80 Prestige Cardiff Green/Green and a MY2022. I've only seen 2 on the road here so far. A Vic Black one and a Gold Coast Silver. Have only seen them once. The Black one could've easily been a test driver. So, I can only confirm the GC Silver that was parked at a Doctor's office as I passed by as a purchased road vehicle.

I think you are right on the cusp of 21 vs. 22. My 2021 Gold Coast Silver Prestige is due to arrive Sept. 15…and it’s not a 22. From what my dealer said, the 2022 won’t arrive until the middle of October at the earliest, and even that may not happen as the chip shortage is continuing to wreak havoc on the entire industry.

Spoke with my Genesis salesman today about another matter and asked him about the 2022s and he says they cannot reserve any 2022s yet. They are not in their system for them to be able to do that and probably won't be before late September. They don't even know the color combinations yet, the pricing or what the trims will include to be able to talk about them.
