We have a GV80 2021 and we are Canadian from Montreal. We are snowbirds and drive our car to Phoenix every year for about 5-½ months. Brought the car in for it’s first service which the dealer in Surprise Arizona did and there was no charge. After a few days we heard a rattle sound coming from under the car or maybe in the dash. Return to dealer and they said that any warranty work would have to be paid by us and we would get reembursed back in Canada. I said it’s a North American warranty and they said no it’s a Canadian car, Called Genesis Canada and they said no. Dealer claims to Genesis USA and USA claims back to Canada. Told dealer and they said no and they have called Genesis USA. They say no. I called Genesis USA and they said as soon as we cross the border we have No Warranty . Ridiculous I said what happens if the car gets a recall. She says it has to be done in Canada . They can’t get parts from Canada because they are metric and US is Imperial. Im boiling now. So cars go back and forth across the border and then have no warranty. She is so rude and doesn’t listen and I tell her to stop talking and just listen. She can’t stop and it’s my fault that I chose to come to the USA and I have no Warranty, end of story. I call Genesis Canada again and they say - not true, it’s a North American Warranty and they have to pay for it in Phoenix. Says he will call the Dealer and USA but I haven’t heard anything for over a week. Right now if something happens to our car we will have to pay for it and try to get reimbursed back in Canada. Pretty ridiculous. If this is true I will go back to Lexus even though I love my GV80.
Anyone else having this problem? Genesis seems very confused. I am not happy
I’m in British Columbia and go to palm desert California. I am very upset. Dealing with exactly the same situation except no on is telling me anything about phoenix . They sat submit claims in Canada and they will reimburse cdn rate for work done! I’m boiling mad as we are moving to California!!!

Not sure how big an issue this will be.
The Canadian dollar is approx. 30% higher than the American dollar.
So after conversion, I would estimate it would be the same...no?

I spoke with another GV80 owner the other day at our golf course. He was in Florida for the winter and needed a Scheduled Service done. He had to pay for it but got reimbursed back
Here in Montreal. They did do the conversion from US Dollars to Canadian $ so he didn’t lose anything on the exchange. I will be ok as I don’t do enough mileage. I will have a service here
In August and won’t need another until I return from the winter next April.
The only problem I see is if you have a Warranty Issue or a recall. You might have to pay big bucks up front and wait a number of months to get reimbursed back In Canada .
Will be calling Genesis Canada again to find out what the process will be. Genesis is a great car but this kind of service really sucks. They better fix this or most of us won’t reorder a Genesis when it’s time. They don’t seem to get that yet.

I was wondering about that too but I spoke to another GV80 owner just this week. His dealer reimbursed him but converted it based on the Exchange Rate. Just make a note of the exchange rate on the day you get your service done in the USA. We shouldn’t be having to do any of this. I was Lexus and Jaguar owner for 21 years and service was always covered in the USA. I never saw a Bill or had to pay for anything. They just gave me a copy of what they did so I had proof for the Canadian Warranty and Service.

If you’re moving to California you better sell your Genesis in Canada first. I called Genesis USA and they said Canadian cars won’t be covered for anything in the USA. I has quite the argument with her. She said it’s the same as our Medical , once you cross the border, you aren’t covered unless you buy Travel Insurance. Seriously! Someone needs to contact a CEO in Korea about this. Or a CEO for North America.

I would suggest getting the phone # for Genesis North America, which covers Canada and the US.

I have phoned and talked to both Countries- The Warranty Departments. Canada tells me it’s a North American Warranty. Told me US Dealer puts claim to Genesis USA, then Genesis USA puts a claim into Genesis Canada. It’s all covered. Then I called Warranty Department in the USA and they tell me no. I have to pay the Dealer and get my money back in Canada. Can’t wait to see what a mess that will be and how long and how much the reimbursement would be.this is so dumb. You try

It's just plain wrong.
Using their own medical insurance analogy, I have Blue Cross / Blue Shield of California.
I live in Nevada temporary.
My Nevada doctor's still bill Blue Cross / Blue Shield of California.

I'm just suggestion is to contact the Corporate North America (versus each country individually).

I will give it a try. When I did I said it was a Warranty issue and they direct you there. I will try to ask for a manager above them orba CEO. I am surprised that an upper management person from Genesis is not even on this Blog. To listen if not to get involved. If I’m a CEO I would have someone watching what people are saying.
Great car - we all know that but they have bigger issues other than the First Sale I owned my
Own company and this stuff is important
Thanks for the reply

Unfortunately I was talking to Genesis USA and it was them that told me Canadian cars have no warranty in the USA. They have to be claimed in Canada so you have to pay the Dealer in the USA and claim it when you return. Genesis Canada says no and the US Dealer has to claim it to Genesis USA. They are very confused and their is a communication problem between the two countries. They need to fix this
This policy is not a Genesis only problem. I know that Jeeps sold in Canada have no warranty in the U.S. when sold or serviced in the U.S. There may be other brands that have the same policy.

I remember I purchased a new Samsung cell phone online. I had an issue with it and contacted Samsung. They told me that my phone was not made for the US market and they would not even repair it even if I paid.

I am so glad to come across this post. I live in the US and like the GV80 but the trim I want is the Prestige with 3 row seating. It turns out that only Advanced+ trim comes with 3rd row seating in the US only, the rest of the world has what I want (Prestige trim with 3rd row seating). So I was looking at Canadian GV80 and I found exactly what I want including exterior and interior colors and was ready to finalize the sale and shipment. Of course the Canadian dealer didn't mention anything about warranty. This is a deal breaker, thanks for the discussion you saved me lots of headache and money!

Beware, I have read posts in other GV80 forums that the US will not honor a car purchased in Canada. I can't attest to if it is true or not, but others from Canada had issues when they came to the states for the winter. So do your research.,
